Hypertension is a critical condition for cardiovascular health, though many people don't even know they have it. That's why it has been called: "the silent killer". On this page you'll find some recent news about it.

High blood pressure me?, Should I check? Let's see: Are you used to taking your measurement with regularity? You may not know, but pressure numbers above 120/80 or higher, but below 140/90, are an alert sign. Then, is it good to know about your own condition?

Just this November (2011) at the Journal of Hypertension, Päivi E. Korhonen, and et.al have published that "People who were aware of their HPB had lower scores in physical functioning and general health than patients without the condition and patients who were unaware of a high pressure.

Does it mean than being aware of the wrong condition make people indifferent to the problem? It would be wonderful if people who are currently diagnosed with high blood pressure, pay some attention then and start making the changes they need and become more active on achieving a healthy lifestyle.

Exercise and an adequate nutrition have always been recommended, if you like to, check about DASH diet which scientifically proposes: more veggies, more fruits and less sodium.

Also attend to non smoking advice. Speaking about smoking. Another study published in november 2011 at the same journal documented that starting to smoke in adolescence and continuing to do so up to young adulthood, is adversely associated with aortic stiffness. If the aorta is the widest vessel carrying oxygen, imagine the problem!
